This doesn’t come as a surprise with Vikas being the major reason behind the downfall of Phantom. Phantom had broken up earlier but the directors choosing to make it public around the time of the sexual harassment by Vikas Bahl surfacing, looks like a deliberate move to escape trouble.
It all started in 2015, when Bombay Velvet was set to soon release and the entire cast, crew and a few media journalists were attending a party. Bahl, the woman crew member said, insisted on dropping her to her hotel room on the early hours of 5 May 2015 and pretended to pass out drunk on her bed, only to awaken soon after and masturbate on her. The woman was alone, vulnerable and recovering from an accident that had left her on crutches for months. She had only just begun to walk unassisted.(as reported to huffing ton post).
The woman crew member thereafter, distanced herself from various events or situations where she would have to face her offender, Bahl. Since, the woman worked closely with Anurag Kashyap she eventually got around to telling him what happened after he at several occasions told her he doesn’t want to listen to her account with Bahl. After knowing what had been happening below his nose, Kashyap chose to do absolutely nothing. It was in fact Kashyap’s girlfriend Shubhra Shetty who was really taken back when she heard the woman’s unfortunate incident. Shetty then urged Kashyap to do something about it. This again led to a dead end, in spite of knowledge of the incident, Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane and Madhu Mantena did not take any action.
The woman crew member was continued to be harassed by Bahl until she was forced to leave the company. She is still struggling to bring her career back on track and had to go therapy and many other supporting factors to stabilize herself once again. Bahl has been accused of sexual harassment by other crew members as well. And no wonder Vikas Bahl hadn’t released a statement on twitter when the other 3 directors chose to disclose Phantom’s fate. Vikram Motwane and Anurag Kashyap have now extended their apologies to the woman exploited by Bahl.
With Tanushree Dutta’s case of sexual harassment floating around and Phantom been dissolved. Bollywood Baba hopes that the glamour of B-town is not becoming a casual place for sex offenders to be hanging around. Do let us know your opinions about this article.
